GUAVA BBQ SAUCE

There's a lot that can be said about the simplicity, yet richness and deliciousness of this guava barbecue sauce, however let me not waste too much time so you can go ahead and try it.

I first had this sauce as a condiment in a restaurant, and immediately fell in love with it. The sweetness from the guava is hinted throughout, with the tangy, robust flavors from the barbecue sauce.

Of course, if you know me, you know I had to re-create this at home. What I love about making this at home is how you can alter this to your liking. If you like it sweeter, more guava flavor, if you'd like it to be spicy, it's all up to you. You can also make ahead a big batch and store some in the freezer for when needed.

This recipe just requires 3 ingredients, water being one of them. We will also be using guava paste which can be found usually in a can or wrapped in plastic depending on the brand, and also barbecue sauce. I will be using an organic honey barbecue sauce but add whichever is your favorite.

It is so simple and yet so delicious, let's go right ahead and dive into this deliciousness.

We are making this simple sauce with guava paste. Guava paste is a paste made from the puree from guavas. It is a very, very thick substance, very dense and sweet paste. The puree is cooked down with sugar for a long period of time, until it forms a concentrated, solidified block.

There are so many things you can use guava paste for, both sweet and savory. I also use this versatile ingredient for my guava cream cheese pastries, my guava rolls, as well as my guava Dixie biscuits (as a filling).

However, in this case, we are combining this paste with barbecue sauce to make an absolutely delicious and indulgent barbecue sauce!

To make this sauce we will combine our guava paste, with barbecue sauce of your choice a little water and cook it down until it forms one uniform glaze. This sauce is perfect on my Instant Pot pulled pork with rice and beans and yuca fries. You can also use this in pulled pork sandwiches, or anything you would need a sweet barbecue glaze for!
